Lutterworth College

College News 16th November 2018

Headteachers message

Today we had our annual Children in Need non-uniform day and it was great to see so many of our students getting involved and contributing to the day. Last year we raised over a £1000 so it will be very pleasing to beat that target; which I'm sure we will.

I've also been asked to remind Parents that we have organised a Quiz Night on the 7th December in the main school hall. We already have 20 teams registered to take part (including one from Beaver Bus!) so it looks like its going to be a great event.

The evening kicks off at 7pm with hot food and mince pies, before the quizzing itself begins.Organised by the Friends of Lutterworth College (FOLC) group, the event aims to raise funds for the College in challenging financial times. There’ll be an assortment of rounds testing your knowledge of everything from film to classic Christmas tunes. You can enter in teams of up to 6, with entry costing £5 per team member.

Included in the price:

- A hot Christmas roll including turkey, stuffing and cranberry sauce, or a Quorn option for vegetarians

- Mince pies

- Plenty of festive fun

The bar will also be open, serving a range of drinks – including our kitchen’s legendary mulled wine!

To reserve a space for your team, click on the links on the College home page. We look forward to seeing you there!

Shoe box Appeal

As a school we collected 153 (a school record!) Shoe Boxes for Samaritans Purse this year which is a great achievement. A huge thanks you to those students who took an active role and helped make this happen. Giving to others less fortunate than ourselves is a humane and kind act which needs to be commended and encouraged further. Between you all, many smiles will be brought to unfortunate and deprived children around the world. We don't know the destination of this year's boxes yet but we do know that last year's boxes went to the Ukraine.

Particular thanks go to 7B3 (8 boxes), 7B6 (6 boxes), 7B9 (9 boxes), 8T1 (7 boxes), 8T3 (14 boxes) and 8T4 (9 boxes). Also, 12Q1 (6 boxes) and the members of 12Q8 and other Year 12 students who helped sort the boxes.

The team of helpers  from Year 12 who gave up their free time to help include Lizzie Baker (Team Leader), Emily Tucker, Becky Henry, Charlotte Powers, Hannah Scott, Ella Woodward, Charlotte Smith and Grace Horton.

A massive and grateful thank you to Mrs Alderman and the Shoe Box Team.

The Way of the horse

A new programme at the College this year sees Students enjoying workshops at The Way of the Horse Equine Facilitated Learning Centre helping provide them with the tools to build resilience and promote positive mental health.

 Romeo & Juliet - Live screening - 21st November 2018

Next Wednesday morning our English Faculty have organised a live stream of Romeo & Juliet for our Year 11 students to help them prepare for next summer's exams. Students who have opted for this experience (which appears to be the vast majority) will be missing the first 3 lessons of the day.
